Celebrating Children's Hospice Week | This Morning

good luck with that one now Children's Hospice week is the only week of the year dedicated to raising awareness the children's hospices across the country now services like that are a lifeline for families when they're facing the toughest of times and they can't continue vital work without your support earlier this week we sent dr. ranch to Haven House Children's Hospice to visit two very special families here at Haven house Children's Hospice they care for seriously ill babies and children creating a warm and loving environment whilst them and their families go through the unimaginable but today I'll be meeting some of those families to see just how Haven house has helped them this is Finley Finley has a cleft lip and was diagnosed with ho no pros and carefully a rare condition resulting in incomplete brain development he is visually impaired has epilepsy severe global delay and needs round-the-clock treatment and cared how does Haven house help him it was made him he can get it out before it's very sleepy yeah wasn't really doing much in the nice ways when he comes here able to do much like holding the right tools doesn't make him he loves it here I'm guessing you've got to know the staff yeah very know the team yeah the therapist and then you know what would you like to say to them just thank you I think there's never enough that you can't say to them because if see they don't they do before us is just different spell quite okay it means a lot and it shows you just feel safe welcome it's positive like when we first heard on hospice you panic does you think yeah the worst but it's not it's a mate as I new lease of life yeah how do you Finley any other children respond to music therapy I think what parents tell is is just how important it is because it gives them space just to be themselves and it allows them to come out of their shell a little bit the children like Finley who loves to play the chimes and use the bells on his feet and that gives him an opportunity to communicate in a different way without the need for words this is four year old Malachi Malachi was diagnosed with vein of Galen malformation a life-threatening condition resulting in abnormal connections between blood vessels within the brain Malachi also has a heart defect so caring for him is a continuous job so here we are in what we call the sensory room it's a beautiful space looks a bit like a disco actually um but it's one of Malachi's favorite spaces in Haven house what does he like about the space I'm just the lights like his vision is not too great but he just likes the lights stimulates him yeah it makes him feel good and a lot of people may not know but that's Amelia his twin sister does Amelia help help with any of that yeah she thought she gets involved in music therapy she cares for him she tries to interpret things for him she knows he likes like red and red sensory lights so she'll always make sure or if she's around that somewhere here she would try and get them to put on back red so it's real and that sort of thing what would you like to say to everyone that works it the staff the therapist everybody that makes Haven has what it is means a lot doesn't it malachite is my world Malick and my family is my world and anybody that treats Malachi with the same dignity and respect that I do I can't thank you know families have to support their children 24 hours a day seven days a week so we offer a short break respite support both planned and emergency with my breaks the amazing music therapy that we provide we have play we have yoga we have physio many people won't know how to actually support you guys and other hospices around the country what can they do I think it's really important during Children's Hospice week in particular to let everybody know that children's hospices are charities at Haven house Children's Hospice we rely on 80 percent of our funding through charitable means these services are a lifeline for children and their families who are going through the toughest of times so please keep supporting and raising awareness of exploring places just like this one that helped those with the most extraordinary needs well hide it in great work Haven house thank you very much indeed you
