  2. I want to send this video to someone who cares enough to change their diet; someone who would listen with an open mind and at the very least reduce their meat consumption. Sadly I know no one.

  5. I’ve watched videos that came to the exact opposite conclusion about IGF1 in terms of causes. My experience is that clinical conclusions are usually wrong. Studies have also shown plant eaters die of cancer at the same rate as meat eaters. I can only suggest people who watch this explore further and not put too much faith in peer reviewed research. There’s always opposing research. Focus on true cause.

  7. Doc, I tried going the way of plant based, my stomach never settled, and before anyone says “you were not eating the right food” believe me I was, but starchy veggies were amplifying some GI issues, what to do in this case I ask?

  8. So eating meat is seriously as bad if not worst than smoking cigarettes? Seriously? Even if my lineage and ancestors consumed meat they were better off smoking?

Remember, we eat animals because they provide ALL essential amino acids (plants demand more discernment, time and scale didn't put to the test uniquely plant based diets), many plants are toxic, thus eating animals protects us filtering and conveying the nutrients, and because we evolved doing so (as horrific as we find it to be).

    Processed food is what it is, processed. It is a most of the time scientific approach to prepare food, for regulative health linked reasons (to protect us), economical reasons (partition and resale), and culinary reasons (rejoice), you can combine all three at will.
    Which is bad, which is good? You have to look into it. One thing sure, it is way more easy to get back to natural food, at least nothing was lost. But getting better at wisely processing food is, in the end, better than eating natural food, there you know what you eat.

    I really love NutritionFacts.org's approach and propaganda " what we eat IS the precursor". But it should change its name to NutritionStats.org, as this is what we get in the end: a yell out loud 'so it seems' statistical expression of sparse peculiar facts and conclusions taken from scientific tests. I am not diminishing the efforts of Dr Greger, my deepest sympathies and much respect goes to such appearance of logic, but we always end in the same today's trend leitmotif conclusions "plants equal health, cholesterol is bad, processed is bad, animal is bad etc..". Those are not false, surely true for the everyday gluttons we all have an excessive ease at becoming nowadays, but this is not all.

    Obviously, taking subjects which almost banished plant based products and reverse their carbs and fats overdose will not arm.

    But I am rarely seeing the almighty scientific approach to extract facts, baseline on the mean normal human and discern precise possible causes and effects.

    Context is a main issue in scientific tests, they always target populations that are linked to specific conditions, thus it is difficult to talk about verified facts for everybody. And a Petri dish, although a marvel of abstraction, is just a primal step toward human testing. NutritionFacts.org lacks a defined framework to baseline the "facts" taken from scientific research. Plus, statistics used to infer conclusions are dangerous, and need careful cold blooded examination. Stats are not a proof of a cause and effect, statistics express a correlation. You have to explain statistics, understand what is, in fact, happening, to be mostly sure of a cause to related effects.
    Might this be why NutritionFacts.org regresses to the large mean, all the time.

    I might be too young, I might be experiencing an holly epoch where youtube and friend's expanding spread of connaissance is repressing greed in crucially important industries like nutrition and cannot understand the "fight it was" to wake up practitioners and minds, I might haven't seen all NutritionFacts.org videos, but I find in the ritournelle of cholesterol, diary and meat evil an easy "processed" soup to a more diversified and lean diet, an opportunist and deceptive End for the grand task NutritionFacts.org could achieve: a factual science based nutrition framework rule book on the human body system.

  10. Hey Dr. Greger, love your work, would love a video on protein bioavailability in plants vs meat as that's one of the more recent counterarguments I see popping up against plant-based eating.

  11. My father has always been a strong meat and cheese eater. He has diabetes mellitus since he was very young. He has many complications in his health. He has had at least three transplants so far, I lost count of how many pancreas and kidneys he has today. I'm vegan and this video speaks loudly to me.

  12. Animal protein helps stimulate muscle growth factors like mTOR and IGF-1, perhaps the reason a lot of vegans are emaciated. They say a creaking gate lasts the longest, and since life is as much about quality as it is about quantity I'll gladly sacrifice ten or twenty years off my life-span for the sake of meat and muscle. If you value being 110 in some care home, best of luck vegans.

  14. Some tips
    – try out different spices on rice, beans, and veggies

    – STEAM EVERYTHING! It's much harder to over/undercook compared to pan frying, sauteing, or baking.

    – cabbage is cheap and easy to cook. Green cabbage goes well with rice

    – main staples: beans/lentils, white rice, sprouted rice, sweet potatoes, quinoa

    – you have way more options if you don't need to only eat organic

    – use more spices, less salt/sugar

    – More beans! you can find bean pasta in certain grocery stores

    – organic white rice from Thailand (jasmine), India (Basmati) and California have the least arsenic

    – get into making smoothies at home. If you shop at costco/sam's club, frozen fruit is not that expensive

    – an apple every day, a smoothie every day, beans every day (with rice), and as much veggies as you can eat

    – if you water down your tea/coffee you won't need as much sugar or creamer

  17. In a study done in Japan in 1990 on centenarians, the highest per capita in the world, the measured animal protein in their blood was higher than the average Japanese citizen.
    They also picked a group of people between 60 and 70, and measured their animal protein for 10 years. At the end of the study, the survivors had a higher level of animal protein than the people who started. Meaning the low animal protein people died off in larger numbers. These are people who had the protein measured, not from reports.

    How do you square that? Japanese tend to eat a much more healthy diet than Americans with lots of sea food and about 75 percent carbs. Calling animal protein something like cigarettes is beyond science closer to the twilight zone.

    The longest lived group of people in the world are the SDA of Loma Linda, CA. The centenarians in that group eat 10 percent of their diet as dairy and 5 percent as eggs. Two foods that are high in that growth protein. We do know that milk drinkers have a higher rate of prostate cancer, however it doesn't apply to cheese or other dairy products. And btw, they have lower rates of colorectal cancer.

  18. Good to remember, that you also get IGF-1 in dairy & meat. You get all the hormones the animal has. Especially in animal fats. Butter being the absolute highest source of all hormones, from estrogen to cortisol and IGF-1.

  19. But changing your genes goes against everyones ultimate scapegoat "it is genetics"… Then personal responsibility comes in and people definetaly cannot handle any of that, they wont even grow their own food and need big daddy govt and corporate states to feed them…. Lols… Sad

  20. I have heard before that animal products lead to aging faster. But I also keep hearing that animal protein is much better quality than plant. Since usually most of the vital amino acids for building muscle are found in animal products this also makes sense.
    Can you please discuss briefly the quality of the proteins in relation to muscle bulging as well?

  21. okay igf-1 may decrease lifespan , but it also increases your quality of life and athletic ability and gaining muscle , so pick your posion i guess.

  23. Guess we shouldn't exercise too or take a sauna while on our plant based diet, because they increase IGF-1 too. Do your research people and don't rely only on this buffoon. The research regurgitated here is shoddy science.
