Helping To Save The Planet This World Wellbeing Week

the 24th to the 28th of June is world well-being week which provides locals in Scarborough and those around the globe an opportunity to get involved and improved their welfare in Scarborough Market Hall have been hosting events for out the week with Wednesday dedicated to saving the planet it's really important today there is no planet B so we've got to save the planet we've got to do as much as we possibly can so we've got two or three community groups downstairs today who are here to talk about everything that you can do to make a difference and there's a lady collecting for Ellis fund so if anyone's got any donations they're bringing them today so they can make the world a better place having a healthy well-being is something that Lindsay is deeply passionate about I think for me I struggled with lots of different elements of well-being throughout my life and yesterday was an important day or some mental health and community and for me being part of the community is very important and also everybody at some point in their life struggles with mental health so there were people here yesterday that you could talk to that could help you and in whatever you were struggling with already there's a lot of people here talking to all the exhibitors and tomorrow it's all about health and beauty tomorrow and Friday is sport and fitness and we've got a gentleman here and for leisure and tourism as well and in the middle of the market hole itself stood an art piece with the aim of getting people to think about the plastic that's left on our beaches what you see behind me the colorful part was collected by on South Bay Beach in scar by one man into only two weeks and he was part of a group of people picking up litter on the beach and the rest of those people through their litter away so this is only a small proportion he came to me and said Gaby I've got all this rubbish will you have a look at it and I was quite mortified 24 buckets of 56 spades here 50 little Forks 6 dummies countless big blocks full of Barbies so what I wanted to do was make it so that everybody can can meet it and an archway that people can pass through and realize that we are deliberately making this single-use plastic attractive to our children and ultimately it's what's going to kill them guidance on offer included the idea of reusing everyday items more than once I want to present it in a really positive way so that people can feel that they can do something about it recognizing that we do not need to only use things once that we we can use alternatives that the lower part of the installation is made of foil bamboo little bits of pieces of wood cocktail sticks and this biodegradable masking tape so you can't there are alternatives available and the foil is infinitely recyclable a lady this morning actually said to me that she didn't know about the event until she saw her poster and so she came down this morning to see what it was all about and she wants to help by refill in her soap bottles so she's going to talk to someone this morning about how to do that so with further events planned for the remaining days of the week it's hoped that members of the public can gain a greater understanding of the help that is out there for them regarding their health and well-being Taylor that's even
