HNRCA Nutrition, Exercise Physiology, and Sarcopenia Lab

the nutrition exercise physiology and sarcopenia lab has been really focused on examining the age-related changes in skeletal muscle structure and function we believe in our lab that both nutritional interventions and physical activity interventions can have a big role in preventing the onset of dependence and older people so so all the work that we've been doing has really been trying to understand how changes in muscle function really relate to changes in physical function and disability and older adults and if we can be successful at that we can delay dependence and older adults and improve their health span not necessarily improve their life span but improve there's this concept of health span we're very excited about a couple of things that the lab one is that we're really trying to understand the role of some very small non-coding genes or micro RNA in skeletal muscle and how they may control and and be be altered with aging we continue to be interested in some of the interactions between nutrients supplementation and protein intake and and its effects and interactive effects with exercise training we're also somewhere more broadly interested in some of the changes that exercise and physical activity may have on neuro cognitive functioning that's some that's an area that hasn't been as well studied so I think that those those things have potential in the future
