LSE2020 Phase Two – 2. Digital Identity and Wellbeing

Well I think online is real life, I don’t think it’s like good to separate them both, because what you type as a person is what represents you I use LinkedIn, I think most people do. I also use Facebook, now Facebook has this way to you can add your jobs and I think they are trying to make it a personal/professional which, can be quite confusing because when you think about being professional and looking professional you want something that is just dedicated for that and LinkedIn is definitely that kind of application,. I think you have to be a lot more careful nowadays about what you post, especially like opinions and that sort of thing because they always say employers are looking for that sort of thing, but also I think it is important just for your family and friends as well, reputation matters nowadays when everything is essentially public. I used to a lot but then here when you’re doing social sciences you have to be so specific I’ve given up that because then you have these long debates on Facebook, everyone is trying to say the same thing but with slightly … so I think it is too time consuming I’ve given that up now. I think maybe writing in a paper an article is probably better really than having those kind of discussions. We don’t understand it anymore, if it becomes too complex because, for example, my phone does updates once in a while and if I don’t do those updates, my phone doesn’t work anymore, so I think that I am forced to do those updates and I am forced to go with the flow of technology or else my phone won’t work anymore, but I don’t understand the update itself so don’t like the fact that I don’t understand and can’t maintain my own technology. Technology, I would say that um… I don’t think it will replace jobs any time soon or we’re kind of creating these fake profiles any time soon. Of course with kind of the fake news issue that’s maybe something in academia to study a bit more, but I think technology can be really productive, really effective in terms of how we work kind of communicating within our work and also being able to delegate things better so I think it does increase efficiency so for the time being I don’t think it is a major concern but kind of maybe we can learn how to use technology better.
