mental health and well-being with don't look down podcast | podcast12b #4

[Applause] alright guys we are platform 12 B we are joined today by Emily Taylor so Emily basically runs a podcast of her own talking about mental health and a few other things I think being talked about a little bit yes I love it so I'm in the process of launching it and interviewing people ready to release when they've all been pre-recorded so it's called don't look down and it's basically talking to people that have had a life-changing incident occurred or that suffered with depression or had an illness so it's not just about it's not just about it's about well-being and things that have generally happened to people that it's been unexpected or it could be that they have just always suffered with depression yeah but the positive spin on it is how they're sharing their stories and how they've learned coping mechanisms and how they've come up with the sides know you know there's that old fashioned of saying that there's a light at the end of it really is yeah and when you listen to some of the stories you just think wow yeah if that person can get over that yeah how do you find someone that's all I know howdy cuz you don't just go about it like it's not like any so every time you can ask the Ranas liber you know all about them and it's not on you know anything about them really before you get into how do you find someone so I mean mental health and depression is not something that I've always suffered with I've had things happen to me that's caused bouts of depression yeah yeah but things have been out of my control just woke up one day and thought oh God you know I'm depressed it's been things that have happened it's been a yeah you know peace yeah but so but my mom has always suffered with depression I've grown up she's brilliant mom don't get me wrong yeah yeah I think people think it takes you away from a person but doesn't really yeah exactly that just a lot of people need to try and break I guess and that's what I'm trying to do there's so many things I'm trying to do but breaking the stigma yeah Wow so I've grown up with my mom always suffering with depression and her feeling ashamed of it you know trying to get a hell yeah you know so many different obstacles that you just don't realize so that's always been there and my family yeah and that's kind of close to my heart but then things don't happen to me in my life is there made me think yes I wanna try on this podcast I am give something back and help people so and I've know a lot of people happy Network and be in this fine smart office try not my mom for the record yeah we're best friends memory play so but no so initially I thought right well I can think of this person this person in this person one of them being my friend and of the Bema come through instructor and I thought they would be brilliant oh yeah so my kungfu instructor for example he was 14 when he moved to Birmingham very very shy no confidence and joined saw advertised a martial arts lab alcanzó Booga which he's ruined by a Chinese master from China he moved over here in 70s and it's the journey that he's gone on yes it's done so much for me is allowed by body and now yeah brings clubs so highly respected but it's how he's meant at people in his own clubs yeah for example you know kids that have been bullied yeah you know you parents you get them in self-defense it's not just about learning how to look after yourself it's about like keeping yourself off you mind a bit of it isn't it and I want to motivate you completely yeah I guess one comparison that uses the model brothers 15 he was the choice person on a flock incredibly shy so socially awkward as well and then he started boxing probably about a year in a bit ago yeah and his confidence has like rocky in it is the confidence and it's about not getting too cocky it's about knowing who you are you know and really finding out what you came well after about learning and are looking after yourself confidence meeting people yeah it's a hobby so there's that spin on it and just how good exercise is for you oh god yeah you know anyone just go for a walk no that was like when we I'm not sure what all he'll be released whether this one quite first or Simon's but when we when we recorded the time obviously we talked to her about the symptoms of things and like how she notices she felt quite lazy in bed and whatever but some of the I felt I didn't really touch on wasn't a physical sort of like of how so with depression stuff people say like healthy body healthy mind everybody works together in examples of people that you've spoken to obviously like you come through in structure as you said have you got many more like that where the physical sort of thing has helped also that's like so definitely I interviewed a real well-known person in Greenwich she was just in my I was a saint yeah her name is Lena Walsh she's done so much for the community it's unreal and you know she should be awarded ya cyan't award but yes she has got involved in therapy okay so and she does it in Jaffa you know fondant tray yeah you know because that's the other thing is not everybody can afford to pay for a top barrister well this is it you should never feel embarrassed it's not you know depression isn't for the riches it no you know so it's so she volunteers and she she offers never paid yeah Indian Head massage as she wins you know it sounds absolutely amazing so those there's a lot that it's not just about talking and and you know coming out and actually feeling confident and I've decided you know what yeah I do depression or I've had this happen to me my love which is cause this yeah so yeah there's a lot to do with the physical sort of thinking in connecting with nature as well yeah meet people yeah so through running your podcast cuz obviously different podcasts can have different outcomes and IIMs ours very much so as you said before is we're trying to connect people from the area and eventually we quite have want to make bread each a bigger thing than what people see it yeah you know lots of different things you want to work on whether it be events podcast etc but this is like our starting point with your podcast as you've said you've started recording stuff and like you want to obviously start pushing the podcast get promo done but what do you see is the end goal with it what do you what do you see at the end of the tunnel eyes you know yeah like that sort of what is your end goal for it my end goal is to try and get people that can relate to these people sharing their stories and speaking helping people raising awareness that you know you don't have to be ashamed that you've got this lifelong illness that you've had an addiction yeah yeah that you've had an accident that it's completely changed I'm interviewing the guy who absolutely adore him he's the funniest man of every year honestly he's hilarious I'm so excited you don't mean this Thursday and he had a life-changing accident that happened to him that's left him partially disabled and he's gonna got himself a part in combination Street really yeah so it's you never think that you know you big as well yeah people like you always see minority is really and like everyone trying to bring wheelchair access to the because you see all the time I like soaps and stuff you always get I'd get person the wheelchair now it's a bad thing that's good thing but you always see anything so that's my end goal yeah is by these people and I'm looking and I'm fortunate you know some people that I know some people don't know yeah I've contacted somebody today that I don't know if just put the message out there this is what I'm doing this subjects close would you be interested in Glee another podcast I've had a reply yes I am that is can't have gone from there I think I was gonna have just six people I think it's now 15 which all other portfolio just people have got someone to look at them their block I really want to work with you and these the things I want to work hard I guess isn't it like if you've got somebody to show for and you were trying to do some it yourself people are gonna gravitate to you naturally aren't they also before we carry on or leave Instagram bio any of the bio they've got messages will Finland and platform 12 be literally like when Scott said oh you know they're doing a podcast so absolutely it's just funny because if we just sort of set it in Mike just as a joke a bit really but what what what goes reddit and we thought about it and there's Kevin as always its little patch um I don't know if you've watched it I what the patch no it's not in the newest it though okay I'll give you a conduit bring over on it the reason it became such a big like like meme almost within like us to use this platform 12 B is when I was UT in Brahm I picked up a place on platform 12 beta stand where you could guarantee a seat on the train and it sounds so stupid when you say that that bar it becomes such a common thing I'd be like so that's that when we went okay oil which is a different he's standing at one toy dog would build eyes like there or there or there wow that's anyone PMS bro I'll let you know what this time is because I guarantee you guess you'll be a sieve oh yeah well we get to prove all the time that it's just thing like my mom like we always on a side I take us a lot amount of rings like it should I have to say ready she's actually a really good place to live it's not well at all we discussed this because obviously without people knowing not how we've obviously come in contact and stuff we've got a mutual friend did Scott because you work with Scott Scott my school with us Scott the hilarious one of the funniest people we into the screen is such a lovely kid so he mentioned that you were about start podcasts so I said to us are able to I said I'll talk to you about mental health well-being then this was probably within two days of us originally mentioning that we wanted to start doing like fundraisers and stuff yeah so as I okay this listen makes sense obviously he's mentioned it to you we've connect social media and then that was the one thing that you sent to herself to watch our video and thank you for video by the way when you'd said it was like I love the name like platforms well be about ready to not being such a shitty play yes and this is a thing like we I mean I've slated ready to in the past when you look at like some places in central Birmingham and you look at reddit you know I've always thought I'm very blessed to come from where I have because like I was born in Birmingham but I have no memory of living there so moving I was to my parents said yeah well parents like when we moved it was like such a nice change to come back to a my parents grew up and like you know and the thing is you always fly to all this shit area there all this is gonna be bad areas about where you go it's always gonna be I just think people give this place too much slack I do it's not too bad compared to the streets funny though and I always like take the piss out of people that move out of a ditch hmm because they always come back to the kingfishers shop oh yeah Tesco's in the country oh yeah just you know it's so green and oh yeah I wanted to take my dog but around the unfunny oh yeah but honestly I've never been architects goods or somebody on holiday and it just disappeared it's not very usual rude don't know if I'll go in Tesco exactly we've got massive test goes up see the more I think about it considering the size I mean I know the town is quite big huge but going back to the platform actual night like we didn't really think this at a time but it does so give us a platform to put some in our guests to come on yeah we're just about to reach the end of our first okay so when we come back I guess we'll throw out some more questions about your podcast really an tripod a bit more out by yourself maybe some bit about Scott you know we wanna see weapons and the embassy with a common social needs from there fantastic hello welcome back after a very very short interval we are here again to record with Amanda Taylor as she joins us again want to discuss a few more little bits about her podcast and we're going to go with some more like general questions just to kind of keep things light hearted everyone have a bit of a laugh about it and it keeps things more relevant between everything else as well you know you can compare things to other podcasts or whatever I'm obviously between our two what similarities differences and all of that so one thing I'll say straight away is is that you've said about guests obviously you've spoken to people that you've never spoken to before and has anyone come to you and ask to feature as a guest yet yes of that yes yeah and there's not been like because of the advertiser no is it someone that they know that knows you probably because of the people that are no oh yeah really are sound about yeah I'd like to go off and approach me yeah that's a good thing innit when people are coming towards you and as long as we feature them stuff we have none that really I've way but I think yeah what 50/50 in it it's one of them were I don't want to take on just any random persons but no you also want to get a voice the person that approached things was a bad addiction yeah see that's I've said this before no one's better after life though cause it's about a newspaper guy and like this guy who got Derek no it keeps on asking to be in the newspaper and do not stupid stories and so you have to watch this well anyway carry on okay so people have reached out to you and stuff like and you said you you were originally gonna record was it six yeah you know six it might be a bit of a bit of a push to get six people and you don't know I've recorded four mmm fifth one this week I've got two in a week yeah some copies there so you're quite busy with it yeah that's good to think the keep people keep on reaching out about stuff leakages about Reese now and all of a sudden out of nowhere we went from just chilling with friends and stuff on our first one I got just over 700 I'm so excited about that no really for our first two I guess there was so our first one was like about reintroduced in our channel and I'll say this now and I don't mean it in any way I feel like we've collected such a good big group of friends because me and down at the Conner people will talk to anyone so like we obviously we chat so anyone would have got got time for everyone on tour to anyone so it's nice no people at first interested but our second one which has just gone over 600 was about school memories I think I sort of that yet but what the amount of people from walk words that have Messi's just hang on oh my god I remember that like it's a proper light enough star would you feed into it and that's amazing it it's good to know that people have like you know taken the time out of their day so listen to it and give us like almost like feedback do not I mean like it's not their feedback yeah and I think you keep things light hearted yeah yes similarly but then you keep it like half to just bow to it you know it's watchable we rather than it being all down in the dumps and stuff and I know people go through shit of course they do that no you find a barrier to you don't want to cross the disabled most of my depression question is what that grateful for in life yeah what what's their thing that makes them happy yeah that can be grateful I am grateful for health yeah I think we don't have yeah I think we easily easily take it for granted yeah so yeah how about to me Matt they try and start a diet pal well funnily enough this is the second day without me having a cigarette now oh really starting to yeah I drink green tea and the green tea keeps me off folks I mean I need to go to the toilet more book toxins yeah well I'll tell you what if you can flush everything out a bit great yes how fun winning right before music I mean I'm not gonna go into that because that's the log comes I was nine doctor a Pink Floyd song really original Pink Floyd singer Syd Barrett see me play yeah yeah brought up on music which you know when I was growing up is this shit no a little bit Led Zeppelin Santana were down ones like become those okay yeah yeah it's like played with lots of different bands and read each and and things like that Morrissey Oh mom mom maybe nice voice we love morrisons yeah I'll just I don't know I can't all can have the worst I ever wanna change I thought this is the most reliable thing anyone could be so just I don't know there isn't a day that goes by were a bit oh yes I think I have to do as a job so because love me I'm stuck with it but for me I separate myself from music I listen to work for work purposes and listen to work listen to work listen to me as cos for work purposes I listen to music as a consumer because obviously those things I enjoy whereas the things I have to listen to and there's nothing better than finding that song in the suits our mood all of that song that lifts you up a bit you know me any job so you just change your whole why are you thinking sometimes if I'm really really crap I'll put a song on that makes me feel crap to get through it yeah really yeah I'll be following after me Red Hot Chili Peppers yeah gorillas cuz my dad had the Demon Days album and that then became probably one of my favorite albums now yeah oh my god whilst I raised on Green Day was a big one killers like yeah mr. Brightside before it became an absolute me mean like ready to like clubs you always hear me yeah surprise are everywhere out oh my god there's so many could it's also different because like take that's one of them Gary Barlow I love take that and it's it's it's one of them funny ones right so I shouldn't I do I just can't sign with me a lot of music from like the doors are absolutely yeah Jim Morrison but then I love the Kings of Leon I love Madonna Bob Marley massive kings of male fan if someone said what's your favorite thing to do would be going out you know clubbing it whether you be going to the gig I think IG's a just so it's an atmosphere for me let's park life on Saturday yeah well I write more on that in another podcast because I was just such a sick time but like every one of Dan's favorite Isis ago could law connor and he had to set on from 8 to 9 and I like him but he's not like I don't listen to him all the time for Danny's long really just the N listen to him we were watching and there were four occasions rust I went enough I was like oh my god this is not fully getting to me and I just couldn't that would be my dream job as well yeah not to bee sting or anything I would have loved to be involved in radio Dedra yeah and helping people you know get noticed playing their songs of course you thought all the smaller people and you give them the airtime we've got friend of ours who it's fully enough booked in for next week he'll be on a podcast he's in a band from Brahm they're called risk us and they've been on BBC introducing and stuff it's gonna be great to have him on and kind of talk through that process because I guess it will be like you know I mean for us either mic that we had school within Mitch animove but for him he's doing Kings all over brawn he's been to like small festival they wrote the Birmingham Music Awards last year they were doing loads of doing bits man like they're doing so well that's more like it'll be good to kind of have it from the balanced perspective as well rather than just seeing it from the you know the media you always see him on stage and that's it to actually hear it from here will be great right and because he's a guitarist he's not the main singer you know how sometimes in bands all the lead singer will get like but the highlight and they're not the one that's always spoken to Dave Grohl people like that a lot of big names and stuff and really impressed actually oh yeah good yeah yeah cool god okay so now we've kind of like come away from the podcast II think I'll try and bring a little bit back okay if you could give three ideal podcast guests who would they be it means Mindy yeah so there's not a mental health provider come here well I guess I guess what you say I'm some also say Dead or Alive because along with freedom okay okay yeah we'll go through a lifestyle aside yeah Jim Morrison yeah very interesting very intelligent religious I don't question his existence I believe he was real I just want to understand what the fuck was going on but then like what yeah how he was respected as always yes the real truth yeah always just having a more time to be fair it's hard to think man I'm still thinking about yeah I'm on people and I don't want to think of a female Michael Jackson that's ours oh absolutely adore Jackson apps y'all feel like they're decide birthday with him as well oh yeah see I feel like as a podcast I don't know what I'd ask him that hasn't already been asked Jackson and I only one house oh yeah I think with her though because it's obviously it'd be to understand what was going on through her mind would be such an experience it would and gonna get nothing boy realness yeah yeah thank you so yeah probably and then allow somebody that I really would love to interview on my podcast now would be at Olsen Fuhrer oh I've seen you you said to my bottom on your story and I was going to ask you about yeah I just think the big Dawson Dawson I looked at just he wasn't a people you look at him in such a wrong manner so like he said some controversial things in the past and about past but what Holly what I love about him is as much as he's given it the Bernie Big bollocks his own he is such a an icon for people who've gone through shit because he could turn around and go I'm not being funny look home I become why even he lost look at how he kind of turned his life back around the come he got back into boxing how he got off I just know from that point I thought about it I'm accepting death at that moment and everything that he's done for mental health yeah this is I I just then you know he puts up his posts but he's like yeah so I'm glad the podcast himself they're not content wise he just gives you so much avoid such a debacle person as well he really would I really really would like and Swinton so far she's smiling she's a lot of the reason why I've done yeah what celebrity juice would keep her man she was she was such a funny honey she just had so much shit off him I just thought if you can cope with that many different what she stands for what she does people yeah I think she's got a real person so I think Fearne Cotton hmm and then I was gonna say Bruce Lee yeah I'll know it oh yeah he's more absolutely yeah just trying to think what sang Madonna but I don't know how she'd be some interview she'd be brilliant or I thought I own anyway I just think she's one of these examples of such a big star but I just don't want a skirt I mean I've got one too but where'd you start with yeah it's the hard one isn't it so I do look Madonna's probably those you're at KU that's a good list that's varied as well and those don't be quite boring with it but that's that like that's a really good list of people which is just check out what time I've got two minutes left so Joanna discuss yours afternoon mine quick I didn't know karna yeah I just what everything to YouTube video everything possible I've watched I love it I love them and then I used to check these out this one is nice but it's not one that particularly love however he's got a good jump Elia and I think carefully no yeah this is a song on one of his albums it's called my joy and it's a foul like preach what about snogging dementia I'm a grandmaster venture so I can write about something quite hard but I want to know what there's like three stages to this song we can show you after and it's like the best song in existence at least my favorites and ever and it's I wanna know what went through his head I'm making up some what each the phases of song means cuz I have it in mind it's also funny isn't it with lyrics because they're so personable and that's what I think makes the finest person oh when they bring out their first armor it's always the best isn't it usually is heart-stopper night and it's because it's all about them yeah and then when it's the second album it's thinking of it the people it's not always about that's what that's what I like like the three artists unspecified particularly all of them stayed true to who they are with a lot of their music like it's really really inspiring to see because for me whenever I've written stuff like I don't roll from someone else's point of view as a con Jami good point that's me within and that's usually what makes people famous exactly you know because I'm writing about themselves about their own experience and then like what you might interpret a ya think if that my father it could be completely but if you when you hear the trans you understand exactly what it means because the instrumental yeah it's not the lyrics at me but there's a lot lyrics about it but it's these it's the way that not the instrumental and it's yeah it's hard it's hard to explain but I'll show you up it's ridiculous because it's personal to you as well that really works it's just there's no Michael Jackson just because you know I can I want to ask my childhood more often yeah Donny Hathaway one of yours room using my yes it's hard to think when you're on the spot or go away I think as a dead one yeah any famous not even to football anyone Durst oh my god yes ah yeah РJohan Cruyff is man I reckon I think because he's got the thing named after many the standard stadium isn't it was it the answer there to think that he's left that imprint on them this like yeah yeah thank you this all I can roecastle from Arsenal yeah and I've looked at him and Ian Wright and a podcast he like there are some together and I know how much time you seeing right all right again take a quick break HD 2 seconds we'll come back I'll talk about podcast casts and then we'll go somewhere else with the conversation it will see really its hello we're back again part three of the podcast will be episode 4 we do have someone in the back of the room now I will mention him now just in case of makes any noise it's Scotty wood hello Scotty right well get him on at some point but him his words not mine he's not dressed for a podcast oh yeah I guess 3 dead 3 alive podcast guest no I'm gonna have something different so alive slowly because he was a massive I've got live one will be a laugh Milberg because he was my favorite River player what I was growing up that's like the one person I'd rather pick a lot what I was growing up 2nd one who's alive I'll give a drake and that's because he is my favor eyes not there's no debating it so I just think if I pick him then I'd be long okay yeah ask him so many questions I've got so many little bits about so many different songs and then the third one I'm gonna say Neil deGrasse Tyson who's the he's like the the black or the scientist he does all the did like all the songs videos and stuff but he's just so clever like I've got so many questions I've won asking which I just know that he would have the answer to so those are my three that rely very weird people being a footballer room the singer and songs and then and two of the dead ones are the three dead podcast guests one Robin Williams oh I have so many questions about the end of his life which I just need to understand I think it's such a tragic incident in my eyeballs also I need to know second podcast guest right this is gonna sound horrendous and he's not because he's a know-it-all it's because I'm curious and you understand Hitler all me to understand the third one who's dead I'm gonna go with is hard isn't it it's really hard so I thought I thought this through more by hover this is like oh gosh I'm trying to think of loads of people's down there god Roy Oh actually no easy Frank Sinatra he's Frank Sinatra hands down favorite musical artist of all time of all his museum visitors okay no he's alive like Frank Sinatra is just a nod or absolutely adore him I adore everything he ever sang wherever I just I would love to sit down have a drink with him more than a podcast Ashley Michael if you go in a toilet or not did you know okay so the question is this to me yeah well this is to everyone in the room it's only an idea thing so what's your favorite meal deal what shop you go into and what you have him cuz on a master on the but when you say because Mel do a meal deal there's yummy sandwich it's not yeah always having a cherry yeah yeah you know that one won't be picked up so you have to come round here and speak here might as well just just say it and I'll cite them the past pasta salad thing for Morrison's V medium we have a lot of bacon bits I have french fries in the fridge and then I love McCoy salt vinegar I mean the rich ones good sizzling Bank quite nice as well McCoys oh yeah I like cheese no onions but not everyone I stopped bidding games boys yeah they flavor and problem walk because it's cheese yeah Shawn so Jack my and because they carry the idea from me little chat so I'm gonna just chill out there now okay I guess that kind of rounds up what we were planning on discussing we've never what goes in your podcast we've talked ideal podcast guests that's obviously a big one yeah um I guess one big question to finish up with is what can people expect to see from you in the next couple of weeks and if so what are you planning on doing with the podcast yourself or me ma you said you not released anything as of yet but now I want to I am obviously I've done that one little sort of video upload just saying about what it's about yeah but you know the main thing is is just people to start talking yeah not feel ashamed of something that I've been through and yeah that's it really just I'm gonna I might do another couple of videos when I'm about to release them or I'll be promoting them you can I'll be doing like a little sort of bio of each person to give people a bit of a teaser as to what to expect from that week and they'll be like wow so we've already sort of sort of started recording the little photos and writing that out just so that people know what topics are going to be talking about and they are all really amazing stories and now I'm here and anyone watching I am like really grateful for the people that have come on the podcast and grateful to be asked to come on the hunt right now into some shake every single gift we'd love to have you on again sometimes yeah once obviously things are in formation for you we'd love to have you come back on talk about more stories that you've heard it's been a go but it's the main thing is just how people yeah and hope that you know people listen well we're hoping the same for you as well yeah thank you very much like this arm are you guys come down how many it's been a laugh as well yeah lot we've mentioned before we're going to be looking to do some fundraising cornerstone for mind and things amongst other charities but again we've got more to look into so once we know more obviously we could have a conversation here we'll see if we can get anything going in terms of yeah I was going to mention about the fundraising it's also now which why not we're trying to keep on a down a little bit we mention it because you don't promote it yeah because we're not doing it yet it's because it's a big video wider it's gonna take it yeah well I think you mind of what are you gonna do like a charity event last year I don't even thought about things like their have we they just organized many views no do you like video cameras yourself did I that's what I really as a white might be going up a big fucking in loved it looked every many of it and a rise nearly I think he was a thousand pounds yeah that's good I think we should definitely do some one arm yeah so will even know at the end yeah definitely watching I'll see you guys in the next video cheers Cheers
