Poor and Inefficient Digestion Causes Muscle Cramps

Poor and Inefficient Digestion Causes Muscle Cramps

Hey you guys I’m Dr. Jason Barker with
the Natural Athlete’s Clinic and I want to revisit the subject of muscle cramps
today. So if you remember about five years ago, there was a really popular
study about how pickle juice was able to reduce cramps in people. So what they did
with the study is they dehydrated a bunch of people, they stimulated an
artificial muscle cramp, they gave them about a third of a cup of pickle juice
to drink right after that cramp was created and what they noticed is that
the duration of the cramp was decreased by about 49 seconds on average. So pretty
impressive results. It made a lot of headlines and led to the creation of a lot
of pickle juice concentrate products for athletes to take. They never really did
find out in the study what actually reduced the cramps in their study
subjects. It wasn’t because of the fluid, it wasn’t because of the sodium content
because they were ingesting the pickle juice in the cramps were immediately
reduced in duration. So they didn’t really know what it was in the pickle
juice. I want to make a video today because what I’ve been noticing in the
clinic over the years is that my athletes who come in who are more prone
to muscle cramping have digestive problems. They either are on an acid
blocking medication, they either have a lot of bloating or another thing they
may have is not very pleasant but some undigested food particles in their stool.
These are all signs that their digestion is incomplete. Well what does that have
to do with muscle cramping? Well we need minerals of course – our electrolytes:
sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, magnesium, those are actually minerals.
You need a lot of acidity in your gut to absorb those minerals and utilize them
throughout the body. So if you’ve got in efficient digestion from a medication or
from some other condition, you’re going to have a really hard time generating
that acidity to absorb those minerals so that you can have healthy muscle
function. So what I do in clinic, first thing we do to fix up digestive problems,
a lot of them anyway is to help acidify that digestive process. So we’ll use some
sort of comprehensive digestive formula. We of course love Mountain Peaks
Digestive Formula because it is a very complex and very concentrated set of
enzymes that will help break down that food in and of course raise that acidity
so that we can assimilate all of those foods that are in our gut including
those minerals so that we can get healthier muscle function. So I found
this to work over time. Of course we do work on hydration and taking extra
electrolytes. Those are the foundational things you need to do if you’re
suffering from muscle cramps. But if you’re one of these people, you really
need to take a good hard look at your digestion and I think if you do that
you’re gonna be successful in reducing the amount of
cramps that you’re getting. So if you find this information useful in the
video please give us a like. Please subscribe to our channel so you can get more
health information like this. And of course please share this video with your
buddy who’s always getting the muscle cramps on the runs so that you guys can
go out and run and hang together and not be saddled by the cramps. All right thanks
guys for watching and I’ll see you again soon!
