Power of Possible: Nutrition Counseling

Welcome to this week’s Power of Possible
brought to you by UConn Health. Most people tend to lose weight during chemo
and radiation. I was one of the folks that gained weight. When I relocated to
Connecticut one of my primary goals was to lose the weight that I had gained. I provide nutritional counseling, whether it be GI, diabetes, weight loss, weight
gain… It might be emotional eating. And I love to find out how I can help—I’m sort
of a nutrition detective. For our healthy weight group, the plate method seems to work. I show everyone how the portions are divvied up—by adding things instead
of taking away—by adding more vegetables. Fruits and vegetables are unlimited. I
explain why. If you follow it, it works! My goal was to get back to a healthy weight
and I was able to achieve that with the help of Linda York at UConn. She always exercises in the
morning, she always tracks what she eats. That leads to successful
not just weight loss, but weight maintenance. I’m going to be 80 in a few weeks,
a few months, or whatever and it keeps me motivated, keeps me going! brought to you by UConn health
