Super Smoothie – a fast, easy, nutritious breakfast

All right, everybody, I’m going to show you my morning smoothie. This has been one of the biggest things over the last 10 years That’s helped with my diet. Keeping me lean, keeping me
healthy, giving me energy and making life simple
and easy in the morning so I don’t have to think
every single morning what I’m going to have for breakfast. I pretty much have the same thing. It might be boring but
it’s simple and easy. So let me take you through it. My Vitamix. I’m going to put in the main ingredients. I start with almond milk
for a low calorie base. I put in about a cup. Then I put some greens in. Put kale or spinach, I use spinach, just don’t like kale quite as much. Put just about a handful for some extra nutrients. If you’re not big into
eating healthy greens, you can get the powdered stuff. I’ve tried this. I’ve tried putting it in the shake just to see how it tastes. I don’t think I need this stuff. I think it’s for me
probably an expensive waste but I’ll be honest,
putting it in the shake, I don’t taste it so if you’re
not getting any vegetables, don’t want to put any healthy greens in, try some of the powdered green stuff. It might work for you. Fish oil is a big one. If you’re not getting
your omega-3 fatty acids, this is an easy way to do it. I use the Nordic Naturals
Arctic Cod Liver Oil which sounds nasty as hell but it’s the orange flavored and so in theory you’re supposed
to be able to drink this straight up if you wanted to. I never would. But it actually smells decent and when I put just a teaspoon
in my shake and mix it up, I don’t taste anything. Protein. One of the main ingredients you
really have to get in there. If you’re not getting
protein at every meal I think especially if you’re weight
training, you’re missing out. So a scoop of this whey protein. It’s going to be about
25 grams of protein. I put in some extra fiber. Some Metamucil, the sugar free version. If you are really trying to lose weight, extra fiber in your diet will help. It’ll keep you full
without adding calories. I also had some issues with
diverticulitis years ago because I didn’t get
enough fiber in my diet so now I’m meticulous about making sure I put some extra fiber in. Throwing it in my shake, I don’t taste it. If you haven’t been
putting any extra fiber in, I would start off slow and easy so you don’t have digestive
issues when you get started. And then I put in frozen fruit. That is the main ingredient
that gives it good taste and adds some extra nutrients. Pro tip, put all the
powdered stuff in first and then put the frozen
fruit on top of it. That way, when it starts blending, it doesn’t kick all the powder
up all over the container. It mixes up better. So I usually put in a couple,
a cup or two of fruit. My main ones that I go
with, dark sweet cherries. They have some anti-inflammation
properties I like and blueberries, these wild blueberries but also I’ll mix it up with other fruits if I’ve cut up some pineapples, if I threw in some
strawberries or raspberries or I had some oranges. I’ll make packets of frozen
fruit that I can mix up and throw in there so I don’t have the same
tasting shake every morning. I put that stuff in, blend
it for about a minute or so and then it’s good to go. It’s 350 to maybe 400
calories, 25 grams of protein. Easy to make, good tasting to drink. It’s a great choice for
your morning breakfast if you’re looking for something healthy to get your day started. Keeps me full for several hours. So a good choice. Give that a shot. Let me know what you think. Thanks, everybody.
