UVM Wellness Environment

all right welcome to healthy brains healthy body let's get started the wellness environment is currently a residential environment at the University of Vermont we focus on four main pillars of health and well-being fitness nutrition mindfulness and mentorship we've developed a course healthy brains healthy body surviving and thriving in college which shows a student the impact of doing mine from the fitness eating in a certain way how that affects your genome how that affects your brain and how it affects the outcome of your life the weak community is my favorite community that I'm a part of at UVM hands down I just wanted to be in an environment where a lot of people had some of the same sort of values as me in high school I was very uptight about classes and my grades in school and going into college I wanted to be motivated but also be relaxed and I feel like that's how everybody and wellness is you all just want to live and be the healthiest person you could possibly be you have people you can count on it's like a huge family everyone's really close we go to workout classes together we eat dinner together there's yoga nutrition mentors we have tours of the dining hall that teach you how to eat healthier we've had game nights we went and hiked Mel Philo moonlight yoga some nights the activities are just all over the place and it's awesome to build on the success of last year something exciting we've done is develop an app to incentivize the four pillars of wellness the gyms right in the dorm it's a whole gym it's awesome they have fitness trainers on-demand it's really nice every day to be able to workout in some place that's so close to where you live in the fall of 2017 we as excited to announce that we'll be moving into a brand new residence hall in the heart of central campus it's substance free so everybody is usually pretty with it at the end of the day which is nice healthy brains healthy bodies is a really interesting course Jim is one of the most engaging speaker I've ever listened to he's so knowledgeable about the topic and I don't have a lot of background in neuroscience but he talks about it in a way that's relatable we have the best neuroscientists in a world and the best doctors in the world come in either in person or over video and it's all cutting edge Jim doctor who's yak makes it a wonderful time he walk in he's throwing the brain ball around we do mindfulness practices before class and then right when class end there's a hundred and fifty kids or 200 kids in there but we all kind of find our space to be mindful together the first day when I got here I realized I was definitely meant to be in a week there's been zero downsides to what I've experienced to an incoming first-year student I would say if you're even thinking about coming to we do it
